There Is No Spoon

Have any of you ever watched the movie, The Matrix? Well if not, let me tell you about a scene (spoiler alert) that really stuck with me.

Neo (Keanu Reeves) realizes the world he lives in is actually a matrix comprised of binary code. The realization is hard for him to understand because of what he’s been accustomed to his whole life.  The part of the movie I liked is when he’s asked to try to bend a spoon with his mind.  Which of course he can’t.  A child tells him that in order to bend the spoon he has to first realize the truth, which is – there is no spoon.

Have you ever found yourself in a circumstance where you try to fix the issue at hand but can’t?  You see the problem, you know there is a solution, but for the life of you, you can’t wrap your head around it to find the answer? Well I hate to break it to you but that’s your spoon.

AND I AM GUILTY AS CHARGED OF TRYING TO BEND WHAT I CAN’T!

When I created Your Shine Sign I wanted to promote that inner shine I see in people who I believe have a hard time seeing in themselves.  But as far as getting enough signs out there to remind them…well that’s hard work! For that alone, I struggled with how to go about it. How to bend that metaphorical spoon.  But I was reminded a few weekends back when I met up with some friends for coffee that it’s not just about the signs I make. It’s the person behind the signs. It’s when I lift friends up, crack them up with my stories, and just be the ME that everyone knows. That’s the part of my brand I want to share with the world.

I’m sharing this because I know we all have similar stories like this. For me it doesn’t matter what I make or sell. It’s bigger than that. I want to touch lives, create a movement, and make a difference. What is it for you?
